"Your Future Holds a Hand in Caregiving"

Home | Requirements | Live-In Nanny / Caregiver Application

Requirements - There are three main requirements you will have to meet to qualify under the Live-in Caregiver Program:

  1. Successful completion of the equivalent of a Canadian High School education. This requirement will help to ensure that participants who apply for permanent residence after two years will be able to succeed in the general labour market. Studies indicate that the majority of new jobs in Canada require at least high school education.

  2. Six months of full time training or 12 months of experience in paid employment in a field or occupation related to the job you are seeking as a live-in caregiver. You may have gained your training or experience in early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing or first aid, to name just a few areas. You may have completed your training as part of your formal eduation. In order to meet the criteria for experience, you must have completed one year of full time paid employment, including at least six months of continuous employment with one employer, in that field or occupation.

  3. Ability to speak, read and understand either English or French. You must be able to function independently in a home setting. For example, you must be able to contact emergency services if required and to understand labels on medication. You will be unsupervised for most of the day and may be put in a position of having to communicate with someone outside the home. A good knowledge of English or French will also enable you to read and understand what your rights and obligations are.

Please include with your application:

  1. Reference from present and past employers
  2. 3-5 photos on a casual basis with children or elderly. (according to the type of position you are seeking)
  3. 1-2 character references
  4. A "Dear Family" letter (click here for details)
  5. Proof of education. (Required by Canadian Embassy)
  6. Copy of valid passport and any certificates
  7. Doctor's note stating your present health condition.

Please be sure your Dear Family letter and application are written clearly.

At this time a registration fee of $1700.00 in Canadian funds is applicable. A $900.00 deposit is required when your application and requirements are submitted to us. Your file will be put on hold if your deposit fee does not accompany your application. The balance of your fee is payable immediately upon receipt of an employer, that amount being $800.00 CDN. The fee is non refundable, however if we feel that your application does not have the proper requirements as we have enclosed, we will return your fee and any documents you have forwarded to us.

The registration fee is payable through Western Union (advise us of the control number), certified cheque, International money order, or bank transfer. Please request bank transfer information. Please ensure that all cheques are payable in Canada and to either Overseas Placement Services or Krista Richards.

We thank you for your interest in the Canadian Live-in Caregiver Program and look forward to working with you.
